Curiosity Spark - What are functions?
From my TPACK diagram, the skill I am trying to spark student curiosity about is functions. The video shows the relationship between a single input (names of polygons) and a single output (the number of sides for each polygon) in the form of a table. The rule, or function, is defined by revealing the relationship between these familiar topics. I plan to use this section of the entire video as an introduction to functions. The 11 minute video displays examples of the concept in much more detail in order to develop the students’ understanding of the concept of functions. I trimmed the video and removed the sound to emphasize the importance of the basic features of a function. I am hoping students will rely upon this definition and example of functions as we continue to explore the concept in more detail and with greater complexity.
